修訂《逃犯條例》風波至今，仍然未能平息民怨。繼上月兩次逾百萬人遊行後，民陣估算今年七一遊行有55萬人參與，警方指高峰期有19萬人。 一直以來，民陣遊行被視為傳統大台活動， 能夠集結支持者在指定遊行路線下表達訴求。在這次反修例的社會運動中，新世代善用通訊軟件(Telegram)及網上討論區(連登)等， 採取 ”Be Water” 時柔時剛的策略模式，在網上互通消息，自發參與，各司其職， 在行動後如潮水般撤離。七一當晚立法會在事先毫無徵兆下，遭部分示威者佔領及破壞，沒有大台號召下，他們如何凝聚群眾力量?傳統的社運模式是否已不合時宜?新社運抗爭模式能否左右政府施政?

The public discontent induced by the extradition bill amendments continues to rage on. Following the 2 marches that amassed more than 1 million participants last month, Civil Human Rights Front estimated that 550,000 attended the July 1 march this year, while police put the figure at 190,000 at its peak.

The marches organized by Civil Human Rights Front have always been considered protests that were led by a conventional leader, gathering supporters to express their opinions by marching along a designated route. But in this anti-extradition movement, the new generation made use of messaging software “Telegram” and online forums ”LIHKG”, exchanging information and calling for voluntary participation online. They adopted a flexible and improvisational tactic coined "Be Water" that allows participants to play their own parts and subsequently retreat like a tide of water after every operation.

Then on the night of July 1, the Legislative Council Complex was occupied and vandalized by some of the protesters without any signs prior to the event. How did they manage to rally the people without calls put out by leaders? Is the traditional way of organizing social movement out of date? Will this new method of protesting be able to influence government policies?
