Winter Drive – taking the Volkswagen Tiguan 4MOTION to extremes at the Arctic Circle
The new Tiguan is the Volkswagen Group's first SUV to be based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) – a technology platform that makes the vehicles lighter, more efficient, spacious, safe and comfortable with a more dynamic drive system and appearance. Today's Tiguan has not only been made longer, lower and wider, it also has a more distinctive, sporty and much more mature look. Volkswagen will use this new automotive DNA to create an entire family of SUV products from the Tiguan. In addition to a longer version for overseas markets in the Far East and West, a striking crossover lifestyle model is being planned. Meanwhile, the theme of "electrification" is a high priority in the product specification for this model series.
The latest generation of Volkswagen's famous 4MOTION all-wheel system is installed in the Tiguan. As such, all-wheel drive Tiguan cars naturally have the additional designation ‘4MOTION'. The ground clearance of all Tiguan 4MOTION versions has been increased by 11 mm (200 mm instead of 189 mm). In addition, the Tiguan 4MOTION can be ordered with a special off-road front end; in this case, its approach angle is 25.6° instead of 18.3°. The departure angle (rear) is generally 24.7°. For the launch, the Tiguan 4MOTION is available in two engine versions (each turbocharged with direct fuel injection): as a 2.0 TDI (diesel) with 150 HP / 110 kW and a 180 HP / 132 kW 2.0 TSI (petrol). Volkswagen will extend its range of all-wheel models with two more TDI engines (190 HP / 140 kW and 240 HP / 176 kW and two additional TSI engines (150 HP / 110 kWand 220 HP / 162 kW). From a power of 180 HP, an automatically shifting dual clutch gearbox (DSG) is included as standard. DSG is available as an option for the 150-HP versions.
At the sales launch, three versions will be available at prices starting at 30,025 euros. Shortly thereafter, the entry-level model will be available for 25,975 euros as well as versions with other engines.
