狩獵隊要把住在神舍的小狐狸捉去關進動物園，男孩看在眼裡，帶著小狐逃走，更和牠結成好友。他們四處遊玩，渡過春夏秋冬，快樂不知時日。
神社沒有小狐的護法打掃供奉，日漸失色荒廢，小狐不得不和男孩告別。
七十年過去，男孩變成老人，回到神舍，會否仍會見到小狐的影蹤呢?
