Built in the 48th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, Yuk Hui Temple is over 200 years old and has been listed as a Grade I historic building. The temple is dedicated to Pak Tai, a deity worshipped by the residents of Cheung Chau as he’s believed to be a sea divinity who can watch over fisherfolk. Apart from being home to a wealth of cultural relics, the temple also plays an important role in the annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival, with locals setting up a venue outside to express their gratitude to Pak Tai. We’ll also look into the customs and culture associated with this religion.
