In this joint production by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Radio Television Hong Kong, 32 virtuoso pianists take you on a journey to meet Beethoven with piano.
In this episode, the following works have been selected for the audience's enjoyment:
- Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, 'Pathétique', 1st movement: Grave (Hoi-leong Cheong)
- Piano Sonata No. 12 in A flat, Op. 26, ‘Funeral March’, 1st movement: Andante con variazioni (Xingji Piao)
- Piano Sonata No. 19 in G minor, Op. 49, No. 1, 1st movement: Andante (Chun-shing Leung)
Hoi-leong Cheong has received numerous accolades, including the Gold Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Tokyo , the championship at the Steinway International Youth Piano Competition , and the Finalist Award at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition in the United States. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Macao Orchestra , Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra , Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway, and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in the United States. He has also performed at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, the Musicus Fest in Hong Kong, the Macao International Music Festival , and the Shenzhen Piano Music Festival .
Xingji Piao has achieved remarkable success in major competitions both domestically and internationally, with performances spanning across China, the United States, Italy, Austria, Norway, Hungary, Poland, and more. In 2010, he won the HKGNA New York Debut Piano Competition and held a concert at the Carnegie Hall in the United States.
Chun-shing Leung entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at the age of nine. In 2016, he was selected as a Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation and has performed alongside Lang Lang on several occasions, including the 20th-anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China in 2017 and a performance at the Vietnam Opera House in 2018.
