Jordan Spieth lost the Masters by three strokes thanks to his collapse on the back nine, which included a quadruple bogey on a par 3. He recovered a bit and hit birdies on 13 and 15, but a bogey on 17 doomed him to a two-way tie for second with Lee Westwood. In the end, it was the worst collapse at the Masters since Greg Norman blew a six-shot lead to Nick Faldo back in 1996.
However, as is often the case, an athlete's big loss was the Internet's gain. First, while walking off the course, Spieth told the CBS cameraman to get out of his face. Then, Marc Schlereth tweeted about Cam Newton and suddenly there was a discussion about the contrast between Spieth’s Humility and Respect and Cam Newton’s Super Bowl press conference.
That was just the beginning - then the Internet really took hold.
