The Ballon d’Or shortlist of 30 footballers was named on Monday, and although the announcement for who won the award will not be made until January, the internet weighed in on who was most deserving. Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious choice this year, given Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League and Portugal winning EURO 2016. After Ronaldo, there is a debate. Lionel Messi was oft-injured this past year and even though his “down” year still puts him in the top five, the window is open for Luis Suarez or Antoine Griezmann to possibly jump Leo in voting.
