“A referee in Argentina was shot and killed by a player he ejected from a game on Sunday, according to published report. The player, retrieved a gun out of his bag after he received a red card, shot Cesar Flores, 48, in the head, neck and chest, Efe news agency reported. Another player, 25-year-old Walter Zarate, was injured in the attack, although he's expected to survive.”
The violent act is not the first of its kind and not too unfamiliar to football in Argentina. Violence towards refs on the pitch circulated at the end of 2015 in relation to players attacking refs based on a foul.
