2008年，政府為了開發新土地，公佈開放邊境禁區。分三階段開放米埔，沙頭角部分地區，落馬州管制站至悟桐河，以及悟桐河至蓮麻坑近2400公頃既土地。
封鎖超過半世紀的邊境土地已經「重見天日」，政府建議的落馬洲河套區發展，馬草壟生態旅遊，至今卻未見踪影。
但開放政策已經吸引發展商來囤地，泥頭車，貨櫃場，亦相繼湧入香港這個後花園。昔日的邊境禁區解禁後，純樸的鄉郊面貌會出現那些改變呢?
