In this week’s show, and in time for the long summer holiday days, creativity and the family. We visit two families to see how the love of making art can start at home.
But first, Hong Kong’s annual week-long Book Fair ended today. This year martial arts literature was a major emphasis. As well as talks with authors, there was also an exhibition showcasing works in the genre. And there were the usual visits from international novelists, historians, journalists and other writers, including Hong Kong-born poet Sarah Howe who recently received the TS Eliot award for her debut poetry collection, “Loop of Jade”.
The school vacations are upon us and it’s the time of year when both government and private art organisations turn their attention a little more to entertaining children and encouraging them in their creativity. Many of the events they organise allow parents and children to explore art and creativity together, a short break from the goal-oriented activities that dominate the lives of even pre-school children. We visited two families to see how they develop their creativity together.
That’s it for this week, and in fact for this season of The Works. But never fear: we’ll be back at the end of September, bringing you more of the best and latest in the local and international art scene. Until then, have a great, and creative, summer.
