In recent years, and particularly among young people, there’s been something of a “back to the country” movement growing, and some outdoor music festivals have been held in our mountains and country parks, including Grasscamp and Shanzhai Music.
Cai Zhisong was born in 1972 in Shenyang and graduated from the Sculpture Department of Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1997. Four years later he became the first Chinese artist to win the prestigious Taylor prize at the Paris Autumn Salon in Eiffel-Branly. Today, his current exhibition at Gallery Ora Ora includes works from his three signature series: “Motherland” ,"Rose” and “Cloud”.
Akif Hakan is an American photographer from a Turkish background. He like to focus on street portraits, glamour, and fashion photography. In 2006, he was chosen as one of the top ten new generation photographers in Germany, and now spends much of his time here.
The Yi tribe is one of the ten largest of China’s 55 officially recognised ethnic minority groups, living primarily in rural mountain areas. Yi musician Moxi Zishi now lives in Beijing, but still performs mostly in his native language. His latest record is called “The Wilderness”. He was in Hong Kong last week, and “The Works” took him out to Hong Kong’s not so wild countryside to tell us more.
