Many of us reach the limits of our woodworking abilities while struggling to assemble flat-pack furniture, but the traditional skills of carpentry, wood-carving and joinery require much more advanced levels of expertise and training. From building temples and wooden houses, to making coffee tables and cabinets, established woodworking skills have long been passed on from generation to generation.

Inspired by his favourite childhood comics, Felix Treadwell paints playful characters, animals, and fantastic creatures. In his current exhibition at Woaw Gallery, Treadwell draws comparisons between human beings and dinosaurs to reflect on fragility and mortality. In recent years, he’s been focusing on a semi-autobiographical character called Feelo. He says that in his works, Feelo not only acts like him, but also represents the viewer exploring the world in which we live.

Many tend to think of Africa as a single place with a homogenous identity, even though it’s made up of some 54 different countries. Naturally, the range of music the continent produces is diverse and has evolved over centuries. It includes the musical sounds and practices of all the indigenous people of the continent and tends not to be rigidly linked to specific or cultural ethnic groups. The style and creativity of individual musicians is an important factor. Founded in 2013, One Harmony Drumming Factory is a local group that focuses on African music, and in particular, the music of West Africa.
