대한민국 역사상 최악의 미제 사건으로 꼽히는 화성 연쇄살인사건의 용의자가 33년 만에 밝혀졌다.
하지만 용의자가 진범으로 확인되더라도 처벌을 할 수 없다.
공소시효에 대한 법 개정이 두 차례 이루어졌지만 법 개정 이전 범죄까지 적용되지 않았기 때문이다.
현재 살인죄에 대한 공소시효는 2015년 '태완이법' 이후 폐지되었다.
