Organised by the Hong Kong Open Printshop, this year's Graphic Art Fiesta has featured five main exhibitions, master classes and other education programmes. Now on display at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, "Collaborative Print-making" features works from two well-known international print institutions. It also provides an opportunity for artists and professional printmakers to work together.
For "Print From The Ground" the fiesta also invited renowned German artist and activist, Thomas Kilpper for a three-week residency to create brand new works at Cattle Depot Based in Berlin, Kilpper is known for his large-scale woodcuts carved into the floors of abandoned buildings. He says he likes the physicality of carving and working on large site-specific locations.
Painter Tetsuya Ishida was killed by a train at the age of 31 in 2005. Many of his works focus on Japanese identity: on the country's role in today's world, on its social and academic structures, and on the Japanese people's attempts to adapt to contemporary social and technological changes. But, as the ongoing solo exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery reveals, the problems he examines are problems that affect all of us.
Many of Hong Kong's music lovers will be spending a lot of time at the site of the West Kowloon Cultural District, in the near future . The location will be home to three large-scale outdoor festivals over the next three weeks: BLOHK Party, the Freespace Festival, and -- coming up first -- Clockenflap, which is bringing top international acts as well as local musicians here for three days and nights this weekend. We talked to the organisers about what they have in store.
When he was much younger, renowned Hong Kong cellist Trey Lee almost gave up the instrument. He says that it was a visit to a music festival that convinced him to pick up the instrument again and make music his career, and that's the kind of effect he is hoping to have on young performers with his own Musicus Fest. He's here in our studio today, with pianist Colleen Lee to talk about this Musicus Fest and to play two movements from "Schumann's Five Pieces in Folk Style".
