ADS ON JERSEYS Are Coming To The NBA [Will Other Sports Follow?]

What seemed to be inevitable at some point in American sports, advertisements will begin appearing on NBA jersey’s at the start of the 2017-2018 season. Commissioner Adam Silver stated that the small 2.5 x 2.5 inch patch will be opposite the NBA logo and should generate an income of roughly $150 million a year to begin with. According to many of the polls generated after the news surfaced, an overwhelming 80 percent of fans are not in favor of ads being on NBA jersey’s.
"It's my hope, independent of whatever additional revenues are generated through this patch program, that the greatest impact will be in this amplifying effect of companies choosing to associate directly with a team jersey, then going out and promoting that relationship to the largest market.”
