As one of the world's best footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo receives an insane amount of attention on and off the pitch. The Portugal and Real Madrid front man regularly gets heckled by the fans in every stadium he visits and most recently, fans have been yelling anti-gay slurs. Even worse, during the minute of silence to honor legendary footballer Johan Cruyff, who passed away, fans took advantage to make sure their voices were heard.
"These are nothing new in Spanish stadiums, where for years players and referees have often been insulted using homophobic terms, without there being any public or exemplary punishment. This ends up continuing the presence of homophobia in Spanish football."
