Colombia struck early against USA in the Copa America Centenario opener, as Zapata converted a corner in just the eighth minute, while James Rodriguez scored a penalty before the half. The two goals were enough to stave off the USA in the first match of the group stage, but it exploited midfield and defensive concerns for the USA going forward. Colombia was faster, but not at their best, granted it was more than enough to take down the USA and grab three points.
