The 2014 Ford Explorer maintains top marks in the federal government's new car safety rating program. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models earned five-star overall vehicle scores in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment Program. Available second-row inflatable safety belts offer improved comfort and protection for passengers. This advanced restraint system is designed to help reduce head, neck and chest injuries for second-row passengers, often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to such injuries. Ford Explorer also features AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Safety Canopy side air curtain technology for all three rows, and dual-stage airbags for driver and front passenger.
