Imagined as an open letter to the dance ecologies of the Bay Area, choreographers and performance artists Gerald Casel, Sammay Dizon, David Herrera, Raissa Simpson, and Yayoi Kambara present a series of performances in response to Casel’s yearlong community engagement residency, Dancing Around Race. As part of Hope Mohr’s Bridge Project, the cohort interrogated the dynamics of equity in performance, specifically how the structures and systems of dance presentation are affected by race. The evening includes a talk by Casel followed by site-specific performances and concludes with a conversation moderated by artist Bhumi Patel.
