“Jimmy Butler could be a member of what is expected to be a phenomenal free agent class in the summer of 2019. Butler has a player option following the 2018-19 season and he would become an unrestricted free agent if he decides to exercise it.
On Friday, Butler declined a four-year, $110 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves. It's not a huge surprise that Butler chose to turn down an extension of only $110 million considering that he could win a four-year, $140 million contract with another team as an unrestricted free agent next summer. In addition, the former Marquette standout could also choose to sign a five-year, $188 million contract with the Timberwolves.
Butler is set to make $18.6 this coming season with Minnesota and it will be his second year with the franchise after the Timberwolves traded Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, and the rights to Lauri Markkanen for Butler during the 2017 NBA Draft. The All-Star shooting guard has definitely proved to be a huge addition for the Timberwolves as he averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while also shooting 35.0 percent from beyond the arc throughout the regular season."
