As Africa’s largest trading partner and the fourth largest investor, China is closely connected the continent. In May 2022, the First International Colloquium on Belt and Road Initiative in Francophone Africa held in the Cameroon capital city of Yaoundé, scholars and officials agreed that the Initiative has made contributions to Africa. The Kribi Deep-water Port stands as one of the significant projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Cameroon. As the first large-scale deep-water port in the country, it serves to not only spur the development of the surrounding areas but also provides a crucial gateway for Central African nations.

Hong Kong, as a vital functional platform for the "Belt and Road" Initiative, boasts numerous advantageous conditions that have attracted a diverse group of foreign individuals to work, invest, and conduct business. Among them is Deric, the interviewee from Cameroon featured in this episode. Currently employed at a multinational logistics company, he possesses unique insights into Hong Kong's role in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
