“This was an incredible day-our whole family really enjoyed it!” 2,130 visitors participated at the 6th annual Korea Day, a celebration of Korean art and culture, with theme, “Korean Style”. Families were immersed in all things Korean for the day.
The variety of activities and programs included tours of the newly installed Korea galleries, an artist demonstration by Koo Hae Ja, who is Korea’s Important Intangible Cultural Property of hanbok construction, a talk titled Gorgeous Hanbok by costume historian, Dr. Minjee Kim, a spicy kimchi noodle tasting, and more. Themes of interconnectivity were explored with the Bay Area’s own OngDance Company. Performances ranged from Korean contemporary and traditional dances, to cross-cultural collaborations with Parangal, a local Philippine folk dance company. Visitors waited patiently to create a silk accessory using a traditional bojagi technique, receive a beauty makeover, and even learn to write their names in Korean script.
