The NBA has a new format for the Rising Stars Challenge that is featured every All-Star weekend. The new format will showcase the Freshman/Sophomore NBA players against each other in a Team USA vs. Team World style. Team USA includes Michael Carter-Williams (PHI), Victor Oladipo (ORL), Trey Burke (UTA), Ben McLemore (SAC), Mason Plumlee (BKN), Cody Zeller (CHA), Nerlens Noel (PHI) and Aaron Gordon (ORL). Team World includes Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL), Rudy Gobert (UTA), Steven Adams (OKC), Nikola MIrotic (CHI), Andrew Wiggins (MIN), Dante Exum (UTA) and Nik Stauskus (SAC).
“It's a good idea for this year, as well as a possible inspiration for the Rising Stars Challenge moving forward. No one puts much stock in the event as a basketball game — it's a showcase for young players to do cool things and is only really watchable as such. With that in mind, there's really no reason not to change the format of the game every year to suit the strengths of the available participants.”
