ONSTAGE K _ Cho Eung-min(조응민) & New Beginning

Jazz guitarist Cho Eung-min is renowned for his modern and sensual guitar sound. He captures warm human sentiments as well as typical Oriental feelings using modern technology. That unusual musicality makes him an one of a kind artist in Korea. He's the guest of this edition of ONSTAGE K, and we will get to take a glimpse at his artistry - the warm side of coldness.
Cho Eung-min first picked up the guitar when he was at 18, just before entering university. That fateful encounter changed his life completely; he left the school to play the guitar seriously and then went the U.S. to study at Berklee College of Music. From jazz to Latin music and pop, Cho is a bona fide artist capable of all kinds of genres, which led him to win Best Jazz & Crossover at the prestigious Korean Music Awards in 2015 with his first album, "Oriental Fairy Tale."
담백하고 부드러운 전형적인 재즈기타의 톤 대신 밴드 전체를 둘러싸는 공간감 있는 모던한 기타 사운드가 귀를 사로잡는다. 한국에서는 보기 드문 재즈 기타의 어법을 대중들에게 보여주는 재즈 기타리스트 조응민. 이번 주 온스테이지K 에서는 다양한 현대적 테크놀로지를 이용해 그 속에서 인간의 따뜻한 감성을 잡아낸 그의 1집 범 「Oriental Fairy Tale」의 수록곡을 감상하는 한편 조응민의 음악세계를 직접 들어볼 수 있다.
록, 펑크장르의 음악을 주로 듣던 조응민은 대학 밴드 동아리에서 처음 잡은 기타가 그의 인생을 바꿨다. 보다 폭넓은 음악을 공부하고자 미국 유학에 오르고 보스턴의 버클리 음대에서 재즈 기타를 공부했다. 한국으로 돌아온 후 재즈 밴드와 라틴 밴드, 대중가요 등 다양한 장르에서 활동하며 장르를 가리지 않는 넓은 음악적 스펙트럼을 보여줬다. 4인조 편성으로 녹음힌 첫 번째 정규 앨범 「Oriental Fairy Tale」은 2016 한국 대중음악상 최우수 재즈&크로스오버 부문 수상하기도 했다
