VISIT PHILADELPHIA increases the number of visitors, the number of nights they stay and the number of things they do. These marketing efforts also enhance the quality of life and sense of pride for residents. They build Philadelphia’s brand and image. Giving Philadelphia a voice through VISIT PHILADELPHIA's campaigns, media relations, advertising, websites and social media. It’s important that people feel that they know a destination - that’s what makes them want to visit.

VISIT PHILADELPHIA was founded in 1996 as Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the City of Philadelphia and The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Controller’s Report:
On 9th September 2014, the Office of the Controller released An Analysis of Philadelphia’s Destination Marketing Infrastructure and Its Role in the Hospitality Industry. In the report, Controller Butkovitz praised the work we do here at VISIT PHILADELPHIA™, calling it “wildly successful” in an interview he did with The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Chris Hepp. The report noted that overnight leisure visitors have driven visitation growth, “soaring 84%” from 7.3 million in 1997 to 13.4 million in 2013. The report also noted VISIT PHILADELPHIA’s keen ability to turn day trips into overnight trips and the overall importance of the hospitality industry to Philadelphia’s economy.

While the controller recognized that there is synergy between the city’s promotional entities VISIT PHILADELPHIA and the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) he called for merging the two organizations to create a more unified tourism sector with consistent and coordinated destination messaging.
