The Syracuse Orangemen will not be dancing in the NCAA Tournament this season after self-imposing a ban on post-season play. The ban is in part because of academic infractions dating back to 2007, and seems to be handled internally by the university before the NCAA can fully investigate and potentially make for harsher penalties. The ban also comes at a time where most analysts believe that ‘Cuse will not make the NCAA tournament this season after a 15-7 record and no notable wins.
“The only two decent wins Syracuse has this season came against Iowa and Louisiana Tech, neither one of which are shoo-ins to make the NCAA tournament. Furthermore, the Orange finish the season with a seven-game gauntlet that includes a pair of matchups with fourth-ranked Duke, road tests at 10th-ranked Notre Dame and dangerous NC State and visits from third-ranked Virginia, 10th-ranked Louisville and former Big East foe Pittsburgh.”
