Calvin Poon Yuen-leung is widely known for writing lyrics for Cantonese pop songs. He’s also a screen writer, film director and even football commentator. In an upcoming joint exhibition with childhood friend Stephen Yau, he’s presenting his lyrics in a new form.
The contemporary photography magazine, European Photography, was set up in 1980 by German media artist, Andreas Muller-Pohle. This year, for the first time, it’s publishing a special issue on Hong Kong. To complement the publication, Mr Muller-Pohle and Tse Ming-chong, founder and chairman of Lumenvisum, have joined forces to curate the Hong Kong Contemporary Photography Exhibition 2016.
Throughout history, advances in technology, tools, and media have constantly opened up new possibilities for the artist. In 20th century dance, choreographers as varied as Merce Cunningham and Wayne McGregor have found ways to bring new technology into their work. Among those at the cutting edge of combining multimedia and dance today is Japanese choreographer Hiroaki Umeda who recently conducted a five-day workshop organised by the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Britain’s ecclesiastical choral tradition has its foundations in its medieval monasteries, where monks, boys, and lay singers would join forces and raise their voices in religious praise. Today, Britain has more than 80 cathedral and college choirs, and hundreds of smaller parish choirs. University colleges, particularly Oxford and Cambridge, have produced some of the world’s most highly regarded vocal groups, such as the Trinity College Choir from Cambridge. They were in Hong Kong on Monday for a two-night concert.
