The Works ：Art Basel Hong kong 2014

This week’s special edition of The Works is entirely devoted to the second edition of Art Basel Hong Kong. Unlike the Venice Biennale and many other art events, big art expos like Art Basel are basically gigantic shopping opportunities. It’s a trade fair after all. But it also does increase the appreciation and knowledge of art, as well as its profile in the community. For many people, fairs like Art Basel are also more approachable than many commercial art galleries, and every year people do buy tickets and bring their families to see some of the latest art being made today, as well as works by long established artists.

Here, you can find the newest of the new. But you can also find work by Picasso, Miro, Lucien Freud David Hockney, and more. This year the show features 245 premier galleries, from 39 countries and territories, a new film section, and over 100 associated events. There's art made from human hair, and art on such a large scale you can see it from all around the harbour.
