The south-west coast of Tenerife is a great location for the observation of colonies of pilot whales and dolphins which remain in the area throughout the year. They live so close to the coast that Tenerife has become one of the most popular places in Europe for whale watching. Visitors can find up to twenty-one different species in these waters from the giant blue whale to the killer whale. There are two resident populations, the pilot whale and the bottlenose dolphin, which can be observed on perhaps 80% of the days of the year, with a sighting percentage of close to 100%.

Tips for whale and Dolphin Watching:
Equipment: To ensure an unforgettable experience, we recommend the following check-list before taking part in one of the whale or dolphin tours:
- Check the time of your tour departure and wear comfortable clothing. It is important to keep in mind that wind-chill factor can fall when going further out to sea, so we recommend you take some warm clothing as a precaution.
- Of course, with year round sun, it is important not to forget to bring some protective sun cream. We also advise you take a cap and sunglasses for added protection.
- If possible, we also recommend you bring a pair of binoculars in order to see these animals from a distance.
Tips on how to take the best pictures:
- Wait until the boast stops or slows down in order to avoid taking blurred pictures.
- Recommend using a high shutter speed option on your camera in order to take pictures quicker.
- Using the zoom on your camera whilst the boat is moving may increase the risk of blurred images depending on the options available on your camera.
