Why Do Some People Mix 반말 and 존댓말?

You might have noticed that some Korean speakers use 반말 (casual language) and 존댓말 (formal language) in one sentence or paragraph. Have you ever wondered why? This is usually because they want to add an extra layer of familiarity to the interaction, and if you don't do this very skillfully, it might come across as rude, so be very careful with it. Our advice is to acknowledge that it's there, but not really use this kind of speaking style unless you are very very certain that it will be okay. Thank you for watching!
