Bangkit/Arise is part of the Asian Art Museum’s Village Artist Corner project, which brings the museum experience outside to meet communities where they are in the space. Six Indonesian artists respond to prevalent concerns in the Civic Center and Tenderloin communities: social justice, threats to the environment and other issues that resonate across cultures. The artists used symbols and styles both familiar and new, from Javanese mythology and artistic traditions to American comic books and film.
Bangkit/Arise is in conjunction with Clarion Alley Mural Project (CAMP). With special thanks to Megan Wilson and Christopher Statton.
The Village Artist Corner is funded through the generosity of The Family of Tania Vonelleese Seymour. Founding program support was made possible by Housing-Related Park Program from the State of California, facilitated by San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department; The Hearst Foundations; California Arts Council; San Francisco Grants for the Arts; and The NFL Foundation and 50 Fund, the legacy fund of the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee.
