Georges St. Pierre, alongside Donald Cerrone, Cain Velasquez, T.J. Dillashaw and Tim Kennedy, made their announcement on a conference call on Wednesday that the MMA world was waiting on. The five fighters formed the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association, shortened to MMAAA. The call also included Bjorn Rebney, the former Bellator MMA founder and now lobbyist, in a way, for the MMAAA. The road ahead for the fighters in their attempts to essentially unionize the UFC fighters will be bumpy, and likely get uglier before it gets pretty. This is not the first time a union or association has come to fruition, but the past attempts have all but failed. The success of this association will come on the back of recruitment. If GSP and company can lure enough fighters to their side, the UFC will have to bend at some point and discuss a Collective Bargaining Agreement, like that of other pro sports.
