Italy vs Costa Rica proved to be another major upset in this roller coaster World Cup with the Underdogs Winning 1-0. All eyes were on this match, especially across England as the end result would ultimately dictate their survival, and to their dismay, it was not what they wanted. Costa Rica looked dangerous in the first half and were rewarded for their efforts with a Bryan Diaz goal that was ruled legitimate thanks to goal line technology. They Tico's held out and re-wrote their history as they advanced to the last 16 for only the second time in their history, the last being 1990. This result places huge emphasis on Group D's final game between Italy and Uruguay, with the winner progressing.

The Turk of the game was awarded to the whole Costa Rica national team for their heroics.
