One of Hong Kong’s most historic theatres, Sunbeam Theatre, will close its doors next month after hosting fans for over five decades.

Founded in 1972, the Cantonese opera theatre in North Point is set to be transformed into a church after the curtain falls on March 3.

Sunbeam recently presented its final showings of “Trump on Show” – a satirical three-hour production about Donald Trump and China.

The show is part of the theatre's final mission to make Cantonese opera more appealing to the younger generation.

RTHK was earlier granted backstage access, and joined Sunbeam’s chairman Edward Li, as well as award-winning opera performer Loong Koon-tin for a trip down memory lane.
