In the 2021-2022 Budget, the Financial Secretary announced that $500 million would be earmarked to carry out enhancement works on hiking trails and country park facilities. Previously, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department commissioned a consultancy study in 2017 to explore opportunities for enhancing the recreation and education potential of country parks and special areas in Hong Kong. Enhancement programmes have been rolled out to improve country park facilities with a view to serving the public interest. And yet, are all the specific measures taken to enhance the country parks welcomed by the public? In addition to the upgrading of facilities, how could the management and accessibility of country parks be compatible with nature conservation and sustainability?
