The 2015 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year award was given to Serena Williams, after a star studded campaign in her sport of tennis. Williams won three out of four major tennis tournaments this season, including a remarkable run in the minor tournaments along the way. The public was not in favor of Williams winning the award, as a Twitter poll resulted in a majority vote for American Pharoah, who won the Triple Crown in horse racing this year.
