Let’s take the standard winners and candidates off the table: LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Conor McGregor. We are all aware of their massive achievements in sports this past year, but it seems to easy to award those atheltes Sporstperson of the Year when the likes of the US Women’s Gymnastics team, Adam Silver, Serena Williams, Andy Murray and many others deserve more recognition. Nothing against Sports Illustrated choice though. Jason Rubin and Francis Maxwell break down who could have won instead.
