Filipinx Futurity: Interdisciplinary Practices through the Bodiless and the Rooted moderated by Dorothy Santos with Kimberley Acebo Arteche and Malaya Tuyay. DOROTHY SANTOS is a Filipina American writer, editor, curator, and educator whose research interests include digital art, activism, computational media, and biotechnology. She is a PhD student in Film and Digital Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz as a Eugene V. Cota-Robles fellow. Her work appears in art21, Art Practical, Rhizome, Hyperallergic, Real Life Magazine, Vice Motherboard, and SFMOMA’s Open Space. Dorothysantos.com.
KIMBERLEY ACEBO ARTECHE is an educator, cultural worker, and interdisciplinary artist working in photography, installation, social practice, and performance. Her work explores the hybrid cultures formed by technology and movements of immigrants in America, and the way movements through space and spaces has been affected by these two.
MALAYA TUYAY is an Oakland based interdisciplinary artist working in printmaking, installation, textiles and digital media. Her work navigates the intersections of her queer mixed race Filipinx-American identity and aims to channel the remembrance and celebration of ancestors that have been lost in translation or forgotten.
About the Program
The PAL Artist Retreat gathers artists, writers, curators and cultural workers across disciplines for the purpose of fostering community, collaboration and intergenerational dialogue within the Filipino community and the broader contemporary art world. This day-long convening will include a mix of panels, breakouts and conversations on strategies for visibility, representation, support, mentorship and other possibilities.
