The Pulse：Palace Museum & Shenzhen HK Tech Park, 2016 World News in Review

As the old proverb goes: “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts”. Although Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary is – as far we know – not Greek she has been rather busy bearing so called gifts. Just before Christmas she announced a previously secretive deal to install a $3.5 billion branch of the national Palace Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Ten days later, came the announcement of an agreement to build a 87-hectare Hong Kong Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park at the Lok Ma Chau Loop. With me to talk about these two recent developments are lawmakers, Charles Mok and Holden Chow.
2016 was a tough year for many people around the world and not always so great for planet Earth itself. 2016 saw a record rise in world temperatures and by November sea ice cover at both the north and south poles was at record lows. There were surprises and upsets in the US presidential election and the UK referendum on leaving the European Union, a spate of terror attacks around Europe and America, continued conflicts in many countries, and an escalation of the migrant crisis.
