Look at the weather this week and March seems to be the month for being deluged with rain. Thankfully for art lovers it’s also the month for being deluged with art. With Art Basel and Art Central both opening their doors this week, the whole town is going into art overload. Take a trip away from central areas and there’s even more to see. Head out to Tseung Kwan O at the Hong Kong Design Institute and you can see an exhibition dedicated to a much longer trip: a journey half way round the world. In “Over the Ocean, On the Road”, photographer Leong Ka-tai tells the story of a five-month voyage over sea and land.
What do Sting, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Alicia Keys, Nine Inch Nails, Bobby McFerrin, Beyonce, and The Rolling Stones have in common?
Well, apart from all being great performers, they have all worked with vocalist and backing singer Lisa Fischer. Her versatility made her a prolific backing and session singer working with countless stars. But Fischer is also an established soloist in her own right. She was here last week at the Hong Kong Art Festival.
German jazz singer Michael Schiefel moved to Berlin in the early 1990s to join the emerging post-Wall jazz scene. With his distinctive virtuoso voice, Schiefel has released 12 albums in the past decade, either as soloist or as part of a group. He and his band are with us right now.
