The USMNT defeated Ecuador 2-1 in the quarterfinals of Copa America Centernario and earned a spot in the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Argentina vs. Venezuela on Tuesday. Clint Dempsey, who scored his 52nd goal in the match, put one in the back of the net with a great header off an even better pass from Jermaine Jones. Zardes added another goal for the USMNT in the second half, but a series of yellow and red cards resulted in three suspensions for the semifinals for the USA. Jones, Bobby Wood and Bedoya all will be sidelined for the next match. Arroyo added some drama with a 73rd minute strike from the top of the box to pull Ecuador within one goal, but the USA held on to advance to the last four.
