As Hitler’s personal lawyer, Hans Frank twisted the law to further the Führer’s brutal agenda, and in enslaving an entire nation became known as the Butcher of Poland. James is determined to find out how this middle class lawyer turned into a power-hungry monster.
A memorial in Berlin is a sobering reminder of the devastation caused by the racist Nazi laws Frank enforced. In the Krakow ghetto, James learns how Frank zealously imposed policies aimed at wiping out the country’s Jewish population. The Polish home army museum pays tribute to the resistance force that dared to take a stand. In the midst of forced starvation, a Polish recipe for bean cake brings the suffering, resilience, and ingenuity of a nation to light. Back in Germany, journalist Niklas Frank is the last of his children still alive, and one of the few who witnessed the rise and fall of his father’s tyranny from the inside.
