The notorious demon doctor of Auschwitz, Josef Mengele conducted barbaric experiments on innocent victims, including children. Tracing the origins of his sadistic pseudo-science, James is on a mission to determine what so corrupted a medical doctor that he went down in history as the Angel of Death.



In Mengele’s Bavarian hometown, there’s nothing to hint at the monster he was to become, but a memorial for his victims is a sobering reminder of his despicable crimes. Aligned with the medical opinions of the time, a Berlin historian recounts why an ambitious Mengele so zealously embraced the Nazi ideology. Radicalized at medical school, Mengele eventually joined a team of geneticists studying twins at the forefront of Nazi racial purity programs. At Auschwitz, James learns how Mengele took this ideological research to a terrifying new level, torturing scores of victims, likely in the hopes of uncovering secrets to genetically engineering Hitler’s master race.
