Confession - Hum Chuk (Illustrator);
Negative space. Monochrome. Declaration. Clarity. Monologue.
Blankness. Honesty. Overtness. Ambiguity. Confession.
At the end of 2014, after experiencing the Umbrella Movement, Humchuk quit his architectural design job. He describes his life over the past six years as living full-time and illustrating part-time.
Humchuk spends several afternoons in the summer of 2020 before the camera to talk about his belief of the connection between people, and how he has put bartering into practice in daily life. He also gives us a glimpse into his current project, through which he hopes to regain a sense of regularity in the here and now.
Producer: Bacon Cheng
Contradiction - Simon Wan (Photographic artist)
Using images as metaphors, Simon Wan likes to infuse his works with implicit language to express his views.
The social movement, which coincided with his creation of a series intended to respond to a local collection housed at an art museum, became a channel for him to vent his emotions. It also prompted him to photograph the sea in Sai Kung whenever there’s a full moon, a creative journey which enables him to find solace in the sound of the waves under the dark night sky in solitude.
Life is full of contradictions. As he searches for tranquillity in the night sky, the mountains, and chaos, and clarifies contexts through reflection, his creative direction gradually becomes apparent. The majority of Simon Wan’s artworks have undergone lengthy creative processes. To him, creation does not happen with the pressing of the shutter, but with the entire journey.
