The Works：Japanese theatre "Raven, We Shall Load Bullets", Li Hongbo "Shadow of Knives", Microwave

A ground-breaking stage production created by renowned Japanese theatre director, Yukio Ninagawa and playwright Kunio Shimizu: “Raven, We Shall Load Bullets”. It’s the story of two young protesters on trial for throwing explosives, and what happens when the court proceedings are disrupted by a gang of elderly armed rebels.
Chinese artist Li Hongbo is taking a common cooking utensil as his main subject in his new exhibition at the Contemporary by Angela Li gallery. That object is the chopper, and in “Shadow of Knives” Li makes it the focus of an exhibition that’s exploring the ideas of gluttony and animal abuse.
With the overall title, “Living Architecture”, this year’s Microwave International New Media Arts Festival focuses on how we create architecture as we come together in communities, and how our architecture may then define us.
RTHK Radio 4’s Music Beyond Borders series began in 2003. It aims to introduce international musicians, mostly from the world music and jazz genres, to Hong Kong, as well as encouraging cultural exchange. It also wants to make people more aware of the world’s wealth of traditional music. The series began working with the New Vision Arts Festival in 2012. For this year’s festival it arranged two concerts introducing music by two jazz trios: one from Austria and one from Italy. You may have seen the Sardinian saxophonist Gavino Murgia performing in our studio last year in May. In this week’s show, we’re focusing on the second jazz group: Austria’s David Helbock Trio.
