The Works：Chris Doyle's "HK Trilogy", Multimedia exhibition "Nook", "Landscape Ozu" a theatre insp

This year’s Policy Address, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying outlined a four-pronged strategy to support the local film industry, including reserving space for building cinemas. On the other hand, instead of injecting $300 million in into the Film Development Fund as in previous years, the government is only investing $200 million this time. Cinematographer and filmmaker Chris Doyle isn’t holding his breath for government support. A couple of weeks ago, he launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his own project, “Hong Kong Trilogy”. In the exhibition
"Nook” four artists from the disciplines of filmmaking, illustration, poetry, and writing, come together with a combination of visual art and text. The exhibition is organised by the Renaissance Foundation and runs until 14th February at Gallery Z at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre.
The renowned and much loved Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu spent a lifetime exploring the rewards and tensions of family life. Theatre director Adrian Yeung says he was inspired by the films of Ozu to create what he calls a “cinematic theatre” piece in his latest production, “Landscape of Ozu”. Set in an old-fashioned photographic studio, it’s the story of a photographer father and his soon-to-be married daughter, and the separation they are soon to face.
And still on the subject of photography, capturing the life around her with a camera is a passion for Filipino domestic worker Xyza Cruz Bacani.
She’s received no professional training but has already built up a considerable reputation for her images of, often intimate, moments on Hong Kong’s streets.
Xyza’s recently had an exhibition at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club which ended just last month. But there are more exhibitions on the way. And, apart from her street photography, she is now using her camera to help one local organisation that provides shelter for abused Filipino workers.
