Erik Hargrove has been playing drums and percussion in various styles of music for 30 years. He’s widely known for the seven years he spent playing with the late “Godfather of Soul”, James Brown. Erik was performing in Hong Kong just a few weeks ago. We caught up with him before one of his shows. All but the most minimalist theatre and dance productions rely heavily on the set and stage designer to provide a backdrop against which the director and cast can tell the stories. If you want to get more insight into the scene-setters’ craft, on show at the Hong Kong Arts Centre up to 1st February, the exhibition "Parallel Space” features sketches, props, models, and stage designs from local theatre productions. Sebastião Salgado was trained as an economist.Today he’s one of the world’s most respected photographers. Much of his photographic work documents the impact of globalisation and mankind on our planet. Over the past three decades he’s travelled to more than 100 countries for his photographic projects.
At the Sundaram Tagore Gallery you can see 35 iconic black and white photos from his five series, including “Genesis”, “Workers” and “Migrations”.
Writer, poet and educator Yu Kwang-chung published over 50 books including poems, essays, critiques and translations. His poems meditate upon the motherland, concern for mankind, nature, and the nature of life itself. Some of them have now been set to music and will be performed in the concert, “Yu Kwang-chung's Words and Music". Tenor David Quah is talking to Billy Lee about the programme.
