Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s has been hailed as one of the greatest living composers of our time. He’s also developed a number of connections with Hong Kong, having been awarded an honorary fellowship by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and been appointed as the University of Hong Kong’s 2015 Rayson Huang Fellow. He was here last week for a lecture-recital at the University, and to conduct his own violin concerto No. 2 with the Hong Kong Sinonietta.
In her work, artist Adriana Varejão merges art history, religious art, erotic art, ceramics, and porcelain. She has long been interested in the relationship between China and her own country Brazil. During one three month visit to China, she says she found inspiration in 11th century Song dynasty ceramics and also developed an interest in craquelure, the fine pattern of dense ‘cracking’ sometimes found in paintings and ceramics. On show at the Lehman Maupin gallery until the end of next month, are eight of Adriana Varejão’s latest works, combining Brazilian and Chinese imagery and stories, as well as styles.
The brass ensemble, German Brass is made up of ten musicians who are also soloists from other German orchestras. Their repertoire ranges from Bach to bossa nova and Dixieland jazz. They’re in our studio right now.
