Built in the Qing dynasty, High Island Tin Hau Temple was listed as a Grade III historic building in 2010. More than HK$4 million was spent to renovate the premises extensively in 2012, the works of which included the establishment of a museum. Meanwhile, the biennial Tin Hau Festival held by the temple sees the goddess’s statue being paraded at sea, a traditional ritual that adds a distinctive touch to the celebrations.
