As The Works and 藝坊星期天 show every week, these days art is a year-round activity in Hong Kong. But March is particularly busy, with the two big art fairs Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central attracting galleries, collectors and visitors from all over the world. Also, with so many international visitors in town, many locally based galleries and art organisations pull out all the stops, arranging significant exhibitions of heir own. Here at Art Basel, we have more than 230 galleries from 35 countries participating this year. 28 of those galleries are showing for the first time, 19 of them Western galleries the other nine from Asia. This year we’re looking at the two big shows from a number of different perspectives, inviting curators, collectors, critics, artists and art educators to give us a tour of the fair and show us some of the works they feel strongly about.
